Barberton Makhonjawa Geotrail

The Makhonjawa Geotrail  is the oldest most well preserved sequence of volcanic and sedimentary rocks on earth, spanning the time period 3.2 to 3.5 billion years ago.

Tour Details:

This tour starts in Barberton at 8.30am on the R40 and ends at the Swaziland border-post Josefsdal.The trail has 11 beautiful points of interest, including the Lebombo View which is 25 kilometres out on the trail. It is here where the group will stop for a light picnic lunch.

This is a sublime lookout point with a panorama of the Lebombo Mountains, a wonderful location offering fantastic vistas and is the absolutely perfect backdrop for your relaxed picnic lunch. It is here at Lebombo View that there are examples of all the differing rock formations with detailed descriptions of each for those keen geologists, historians or those that wish to learn more about the ‘Genesis of life’. After our tour we arrive back in Barberton at 4pm.
